Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers about MEA Carbon Suite, carbon accounting, and our programmes.
MEA Carbon Suite
What is MEA Carbon Suite?
MEA Carbon Suite is a carbon accounting and reporting-readiness platform developed by MEA Sustainability Studio. It helps organizations organize activity data, calculate greenhouse gas emissions, manage evidence, and prepare structured reporting outputs.
Who is MEA Carbon Suite for?
The platform is designed for organizations across the Middle East and Africa (MEA) that need to measure, manage, and report their carbon footprint, regardless of their sector.
Is MEA Carbon Suite only for large companies?
No. While it supports complex enterprise operations, the platform is designed to be accessible for organizations of various sizes that are starting or advancing their carbon management journey.
Carbon Accounting
What emissions scopes does the platform support?
MEA Carbon Suite provides structured workflows for Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions inventories, helping organizations organize activity data and calculate emissions across their operations and value chain.
What is activity data?
Activity data is the measurement of an organization's operational activities that result in greenhouse gas emissions, such as liters of fuel consumed, kilowatt-hours of electricity used, or kilograms of refrigerant top-ups.
What are emission factors?
Emission factors are coefficients used to convert activity data into carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). The platform uses relevant factors with documented methodology sources to ensure transparency.
How is the Accelerator scope different from the platform scope?
MEA Carbon Suite supports Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 workflows where relevant data and configured categories are available. The MEA Climate Action Accelerator focuses on Scope 1 and Scope 2 for its first programme scope.
Data, Evidence, and Review
What kind of data do we need to start?
To begin, you typically need 12 months of activity data, such as electricity bills, fuel receipts, and information about your facilities and vehicle fleet.
Can users upload evidence such as bills, receipts, or meter readings?
Yes. A core feature of the platform is the ability to link supporting documentation directly to each emissions record, building a traceable audit trail.
How does review and approval work?
The platform includes structured review workflows with role-based access. Records can be submitted by data owners and reviewed by managers before entering the governed inventory.
Does MEA Carbon Suite provide external assurance?
No. MEA Carbon Suite provides the tools for internal data management and reporting readiness. External assurance is not included unless separately arranged with a third-party provider.
Reporting Readiness
Does the platform generate formal compliance reports?
The platform generates structured reporting-readiness outputs based on your data. These outputs help you prepare for formal compliance or voluntary disclosure frameworks.
How does MEA Carbon Suite support reporting readiness?
By organizing data, documenting methodologies, and maintaining evidence trails, the platform ensures that your carbon inventory is robust, transparent, and ready for internal or external review.
Can outputs support stakeholder, finance, or disclosure conversations?
Yes. The structured reporting outputs are designed to provide the consistency and transparency needed for communications with investors, lenders, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Does MEA Carbon Suite help with CBAM, IFRS S2, GRI, or other frameworks?
MEA Carbon Suite helps organizations organize emissions data, evidence, review workflows, and structured outputs that can support reporting preparation and stakeholder conversations. It does not provide legal advice, external assurance, or automatic compliance with CBAM, IFRS S2, GRI, or any specific regulation. Applicability depends on sector, jurisdiction, entity type, and reporting obligation.
MEA Climate Action Accelerator
What is the MEA Climate Action Accelerator?
The Accelerator is a 3-month guided programme that helps organizations build their first structured carbon inventory using MEA Carbon Suite, supported by capacity-building workshops.
How long is the programme?
The core programme lasts 3 months, but accepted organizations receive 12 months of access to the MEA Carbon Suite platform.
Is the programme free?
The programme is offered at no cost to all accepted organizations that meet the eligibility criteria.
What happens after the 3-month programme?
Participants continue to have access to the platform for the remainder of the 12-month period to update data, track progress, and build on their carbon management foundation.
